During our communication black-out we harvested our red onions and garlic. This was during the football world cup; the onions were Espana and the garlic was most definately England in terms of performance.
The few pathetic garlic bulbs we managed to get went straight into the kitchen while the red onions were laid out to continue drying before being stringed up.
Even though it’s now mid-August I have to confess that the onions are still laid out waiting to be stringed up! But I have been busy and redug the bed putting in some organic feed, and planted the next crop which is chard and red lettuce. I’ve also just sown a row of white radish and several rows of spinach.

Hi both
I remember once digging up a very successful Garlic planting, it was about two hours to dig up ( loads of garlic ) and since it was in a clay soil we had another couple of hours cleaning the garlic bulbs.
three days and much skin scrubbing I still smelt of Garlic…however the positive thing is that whilst I can taste garlic I actually have trouble smelling it. So everybody else suffered?
mmm – that explains it all.
