Glorious sunshine this week and there aren’t enough hours in the day. I’ve lost some plants to last week’s cold spell and morning frosts. I’ve been given some sweet pepper plants and have bought some more cucumber plants, just remains for me to get some more aubergines and courgettes. My tomarto and basil plants are hanging on for dear life so with copious watering and feeding I’m hoping to rescue them. I have lots of tom plants as seedlings that I potted-on about a week ago so I’m ok on that front – only two of my aubergine plant seeds have germinated though! Last year I had enough aub seedlings to give plants away. It’s a week of contrasts!
Meanwhile I’m also busy sanding bits of furniture, and prepping a room to be decorated for our chambre d’hotes – pictures later j’espere. Hence the blog has been a little neglected .
Last night I took the dog we are looking after temporarily for a walk and came across two young stags in the neighbouring farmer’s newly ploughed field. They were having a great time butting heads and chasing each other around the field – let’s hope nothing had been planted yet. It was fantastic to watch but they were too far away to get a decent picture even though for once I had the camera with me. I’d taken the camera in the hope of spotting the owls nesting nearby the house but no luck there.
There’s plenty of wildlife around at the moment with all the crop cover including rabbits! My cats are a bit partial to rabbits so I’m hoping that the one they brought home to eat yesterday is the one that that found it’s way on to the potager having started to dig a warren there – fingers crossed!

Oh I miss the countryside and its “wildlife”… I’m fed up with pollution, cars and public works. Hope you will get a nice picture of stags (I’ve learned a new english word, thank you Julie!) soon.
Can’t wait to see how the chambres d’hôtes look like! Bon courage pour finir la décoration.
Hi Julie
It was great to have a brief visit to your garden and potager at the weekend. It’s looking truly wonderful and as for the compost area … tres manifique!
I do think you should enter your fennel for the local fete competition – you’d walk it!
Love,
Jim
Thanks Axelle j’ai besoin d’encouragement mais Colin sera ici le prochain semaine pour faire le travail avec moi.
I’ve certainly got lots of self-seeded fennel even in the flower beds at the front of the house so it got into the compost – the leaf does look very pretty though
